The Stay Experience at Northliving Coliving, Höga Kusten, Sweden Our double room Utsikt (view) has it's name from the beautiful view you have over the lake from the room. You have direct access to the upper terrace, a cozy double bed, a dedicated work space and a wardrobe for all your belongings. Getting There & Arrival By car, you can take the E4 highway all the way from the south of Sweden directly up to Härnösand, with plenty of worthwhile stops along the route. By plane, the most practical option is to fly into Stockholm Arlanda, where a train departs directly from the airport terminal (Arlanda Central station) or from Stockholm Central, heading to either Sundsvall Central or Härnösand Central, the latter being closer to the coliving. Night trains from Stockholm Central are also available for those who want to travel overnight. Free pickup from both Sundsvall Central and Härnösand Central is included in your stay, just coordinate with Sarah in advance. The moment you arrive in the village of Hov, the pace changes. It's quiet in a way that Swedish nature simply is, birdsong, pine trees, a big lake reflecting the sky, and no noise worth mentioning. Your Room There are three private bedrooms for coliving guests, each given a Swedish name that hints at its character: Solig (sunny), Utsikt (view), and Mysig (cozy). All three are private rooms, no dorms, and each is equipped with a comfortable bed, a table and chair suitable for focused work, and fast internet access. The rooms are compact and personal rather than hotel-standard and anonymous, which fits the ethos of the place entirely. The coliving accommodates a maximum of around six guests at a time, meaning the house never feels crowded and the community that forms is genuinely intimate. Shared Spaces Everyone shares the kitchen, the coworking and living space, two bathrooms, two terraces, the whole garden, a home gym, and a gaming room. These aren't afterthoughts, they're what give Northliving its character. The kitchen is where mornings happen: coffee, conversation, someone asking what trail you're hiking after work. The two terraces extend daily life outdoors as soon as the weather permits. The home gym is a quiet nod to the kind of guest Northliving attracts, people who take their health and routines seriously, even when traveling. And the gaming room is a genuinely fun touch that makes the long Nordic winter evenings something to look forward to rather than endure. Working at Northliving Work is powered by 500 Mbps fibre internet, fast and reliable enough for video calls, large file transfers, and back-to-back client meetings. The coworking area is integrated into the living space, and the overall setup is designed for comfort and flexibility rather than the sterile rigidity of a traditional office. On good-weather days, working from the garden or a terrace with lake views is an entirely viable option. The WiFi reaches throughout the house including all private rooms, giving you the choice to retreat to your room for deep-focus sessions when you need them. What's Included Everything is all-inclusive, there are no surprise extras. The rate covers fibre internet, free pickup from the nearest train station, free use of bikes, SUPs, surfboards, wetsuits, a pole, and tennis equipment, laundry with detergent, bedding and towels, cleaning of all common areas, and fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden depending on the season. It's the kind of list that makes you realize you barely need to pack anything beyond personal belongings and, as Sarah recommends, your hiking boots. Community & Weekly Activities Every week brings community activities, communal dinners, movie nights, ski and surf outings, and excursions into the Höga Kusten. Participation is always optional; everyone decides for themselves what they want to join and when. The community is small by design, with a maximum of a handful of guests at any time, which means relationships form quickly and feel real rather than transactional. You're not passing through an ecosystem of hundreds of nomads. You're sharing a home with a small group of people who end up genuinely knowing each other. Getting Around Bikes are available free of charge for getting to nearby beaches and beauty spots. A bus runs several times a day from right outside the coliving door to Härnösand, with a 30-day ticket costing around €20. From Härnösand, trains and buses connect you to further destinations. Sarah and other guests often take car trips around the region and guests are warmly welcome to join. Having your own car unlocks more freedom, but it's far from essential for a comfortable stay. What to Expect of The Seasons What makes Northliving genuinely unusual is that it's open all year round, and every season delivers a completely different experience. Summer (June–August) is the high season, long days, beaches on the Baltic, hiking through pine forests to mountain-top viewpoints, swimming in crystal-clear lakes, surfing Baltic waves, and paddling SUPs. Hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails wind through the region, and every café, restaurant, and attraction is open. Autumn (September–October) is arguably the most magical season. The forests turn extraordinary colors and warm, sunny days with far fewer people make for stunning views from the many lookout points. Autumn is also the best time to watch the northern lights, they can be strong early in the season, and it's not yet the deep cold of winter, so you can actually stand outside and enjoy them. Winter is for those who want the real thing. The lakes freeze, snow packs the forests, and cross-country ski tracks open right at the coliving's doorstep. Nearby slopes offer downhill skiing and snowboarding, and snowmobile and dog sled tours are available in the region. Temperatures can range from 0°C down to -30°C, but with proper winter clothing, snow pants, winter boots, a good jacket, it's described as incredibly beautiful. The colder it gets, the prettier it gets. Spring (April) is the one honest caveat: after months of snow and ice, nature takes time to come back to life, and April can look grey and yellow before everything blooms. It picks up quickly, but it's the least spectacular time visually. The Surrounding Area The coliving sits right on a big lake in Hov, just a few minutes from sand beaches and coastal walks, and about 15 minutes from Härnösand, a small but lively town with an old town, beaches, and a full range of hikes and lakes nearby. In Härnösand itself, there's a pole studio, a climbing and bouldering hall, a ceramics studio, tennis courts, and a swimming hall with spa and most activities allow drop-ins without advance booking. Sweden's Fritidsbanken system, available in Härnösand, lets guests borrow sports equipment, including full winter sports gear, completely free for up to two weeks. The Feeling of It Northliving is the kind of place that's hard to describe without sounding like you're overselling it, because the thing that makes it special is largely invisible until you're there: the quiet, the space, the way a week in Swedish nature resets something that months of city living have slowly wound too tight. It's a small house, run by one host who genuinely cares, in a corner of Europe that most remote workers have never thought to go and that's exactly the point.
