Foodie Retreat — May & June at A Cape Coliving Retreat Experience Join Cape Coliving for a retreat built around one of the world's great food cities. Cape Town has been named one of the best cities for food in the world by Condé Nast Traveller, earned Africa's Best Culinary City Destination 2024 from the World Culinary Awards, and is home to three restaurants on the 2025 World's Best Restaurants list: FYN, La Colombe, and Salsify at the Roundhouse. The Experience The retreat blends group dinners at Cape Town's best neighbourhood restaurants, weekly Wednesday potluck lunches at the villa, outdoor picnics at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens below Table Mountain, monthly community braais with boerewors, lamb chops, and braai broodjies, Cape Malay cooking classes with local chef Faeeza in Bo-Kaap, curated wine tastings across the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek winelands, and weekend mornings at farmers markets — including Oranjezicht City Farm Market at the V&A Waterfront, Neighbourgoods Market in Woodstock, MOJO Market in Sea Point, Watershed at the V&A, Hout Bay Market, and the Cape Point Vineyards Market. May and June also fall during Restaurant Week South Africa, when the city's best restaurants offer three-course menus for under R300 (~$16 USD) — the best possible time to eat your way through Cape Town at a fraction of the usual price. The Villa & Kitchen The Cape Coliving villa sits in Green Point, walking distance from the V&A Waterfront and a short Uber to all major food precincts, wine regions, and markets. The communal kitchen is equipped for serious home cooking — two ovens, an air fryer, dishwasher, blender, and a coffee machine with milk frother — and becomes a natural gathering point throughout the day. Fine Dining Cape Town's fine dining scene is world-class. FYN, La Colombe, and Salsify at the Roundhouse all appear on the 2025 World's Best Restaurants list, and both FYN and La Colombe offer seasonal winter specials. Book these weeks in advance. For something closer to home, the Green Point neighbourhood has some of the city's best eating: Bao Down (Asian fusion small plates), El Burro Taqueria (Mexican, with build-your-own taco kits to take home), Lievita (Neapolitan pizza from a Fazzone wood-fired oven), Kloof Street House (Sunday jazz and three courses under R300), Saigon (Vietnamese and Asian fusion), Pot Luck Club (global small plates atop the Silo at the Old Biscuit Mill), Belly of the Beast (30-seat tasting menu, nose-to-tail), Chef's Warehouse (ethical local produce, kitchen table available), and The Stranger's Club café. What Guests Say "This coliving is perfect for anyone looking to discover Cape Town, meet new friends, and be part of a special community. Kind hosts who genuinely connect with guests, a stunning house with workspaces, and weekly community meetings to plan activities like dinners and road trips." — Natalia G. "The house is big and in an amazing area — very close to the waterfront promenade, a cute park, a delicious deli, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets. Matt and Dakota put a lot of effort into making you feel at home. If you like cooking, the kitchen is well stocked and has a lot of appliances. 100% recommended." — Clara G. "I stayed for a month and would come again. A great weekly program — restaurant visits, potluck lunches, guided hikes, yoga, entrepreneur table. Autumn and early winter is a perfect time to be there." — Linda G.
