The Stay Experience at Quinta da Carvalheira - Pedra Dorm Arriving at Quinta da Carvalheira feels less like checking into accommodation and more like being welcomed into a family. Set in the rolling countryside of Soure, just an hour and a half from Porto and two hours from Lisbon, the Quinta sits quietly among open fields, gardens, and centuries of history, far enough from the city to breathe, close enough to Coimbra for a cultural day trip. Your Room Guests choose between four distinct accommodations. The Rosa and Figueira rooms offer private double rooms with shared bathrooms, a desk, dresser, and fresh bed linen and towels. The Oliveira room offers a double and a single bed, and the Salgueiro dorm offers a bunk bed and a double bed, ideal for couples with children or a group of friends. For those seeking full community immersion, the Pedra dorm (mixed gender) provides bunk and single beds with lockers, a desk, and all linens included. Rooms start from €28/night* or €185/week* for the dorm, and €56/night* or €382/week* for private rooms. If you wish to include an extra person in the private room is €27/night* or €125/week*. *High-season prices, between May and September. Work & Connectivity A dedicated coworking space with strong Wi-Fi is included in every stay, making it a fully functional base for remote workers and digital nomads looking to stay productive without sacrificing wellbeing. Food & The Land Meals at the Quinta are a deeply intentional experience. The community eats what the land and its neighbours provide: seasonal, local, and entirely vegetarian meals. Guests don't just eat the food, they are invited to understand where it comes from, with permaculture knowledge shared openly by the team for those curious to learn. A rotating system of chefs and sous chefs allows colivers to experience the taste of different cuisines, as well as show off their best culinary skills. Daily Life & Community Life at the Quinta has a natural rhythm to it. Days are shaped by work, shared meals, and meaningful conversation. The resident team, Inês, Ana, Luigi, and a beloved cast of animals including cats, ducks and a rooster, create an atmosphere that is warm, intentional, and alive. A shared weekly cleaning of the communal spaces is incentivised, as well as daily farm tasks for those who are more curious to help or learn. Activities On & Off the Farm The Quinta keeps guests active and engaged. On-site, regular yoga and Pilates sessions are available. Just 10 and 15 minutes by car from the house, guests have access to outdoor climbing walls in Redinha and an indoor climbing gym in Soure. Cycling routes and hiking trails through the stunning Serra do Sicó, and cultural excursions to the historic towns of Soure, Condeixa, and Coimbra are also worth considering. And of course, during summer, Portugal is filled with local festivities everywhere you go. And Quinta is lucky to be so close to fresh river beaches. So do count on those as well! The team frequently participates in these activities alongside guests, making adventures feel shared and even more meaningful! Workshops, Retreats & Experiences The Quinta sometimes hosts self-knowledge retreats, permaculture workshops, and community events that bring together locals, from children to elders, alongside coliving guests. Potlucks, foraging walks (including mushroom hunting), and nature-led gatherings are part of the living calendar. It is, in every sense, a place where learning never stops. Getting There The Quinta is reachable by train or bus from Lisbon (via Pombal) or Porto (via Coimbra), with the connecting 104 bus stopping just 400 metres from the farm. Taxis and ride-shares to the door run €15–30 from the nearest transit hub. The Feeling You Leave With Guests consistently describe leaving Quinta da Carvalheira feeling grounded, inspired, and reluctant to go. It is a place where nature, community, and meaningful work coexist, not as a concept, but as an everyday lived reality.
